History
Originally from Limburg, Sif was founded in 1948 by Jan Jacob Schmeitz. We are specialized in rolling and welding thick-walled steel pipes. It began by making tanks and pipes for oil & gas. Currently, our production is fully focused on making monopiles: foundation tubes for wind turbines at sea (offshore foundations). With our products we contribute to a sustainable green future.
Capacity & competences
Sif can make about 200 monopiles per year with a maximum length of 120 meters and a maximum diameter of 9 meters. Each monopile is a unique capital-intensive product, specifically designed for (the soil characteristics of) the location where it will be placed at sea. Over the years, we have grown into a world-class international player, operating in the international offshore wind market. Since May 2016, Sif has been listed on Euronext Amsterdam. Sif is based in Roermond and since 2016 we also have a large factory at the Second Maasvlakte (MV2) - Rotterdam. Here we not only have production halls, but also a large quay for delivering our products to sea.
Our customers
Our customers are international wind farm developers (so-called utilities) like Vattenfall, Ørsted, Crosswind (Shell + Eneco), SSE/Equinor and contractors (known as EPCI contractors) like Van Oord, Boskalis and Ballast Nedam. In a rapidly growing market that is becoming increasingly critical and demanding in terms of quality, safety, flexibility, capacity, cost and sustainable production, it is important for Sif to continuously improve its processes and products.
